Over the past few weeks, I’ve worked a lot with one of my favourite clients: Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, which runs my local hospital, Airedale General.
The trust organises annual Pride of Airedale awards to recognise the hard work put in by staff members and volunteers at the hospital.
There will no doubt be plenty of media coverage of the NHS in the weeks to come as turmoil engulfs some parts of the organisation, but some of the wonderful people who make the hospital a better place will always be in my mind. I can honestly say my commissions for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust are among the most uplifting I undertake, coming into contact with so many selfless people who work so hard to make patients’ lives better.
The awards also opened my eyes to the breadth of skills needed to make a modern hospital run smoothly. There were 295 nominations for an award, with judges deciding on 14 winners, ranging from caterers and gardeners to apprentices and trainees and the whole emergency department.
Well done to all of them, including those nominated but who didn’t quite get their hands on the trophies. You’re all winners to me!
