A great evening on Thursday at Keighley Creative’s ‘bijou’ Stockroom Cinema to see a screening of I Swear, a remarkable film, in part produced by local man Piers Tempest (above) charting the development of the central character John Davidson’s development of Tourette’s Syndrome as he approaches adulthood and the problems this causes as people fail to recognise and understand the condition.

Keighley Creative I Swear screening with producer Piers TempestRobert Aramayo’s performance as Davidson deservedly won him best lead performance accolade at the British Independent Film Awards.

The viewing was followed by a question-and-answer session with Piers, one of the film’s producers, which gave an insight into how Aramayo came to be selected for the main role, and the difficult processes the production of independent films has to undergo.

And he revealed all but one of the occurrences in the movie did actually happen, including the time Davidson swore in front of the late Queen at Holyrood Palace when receiving his MBE.

The film provides plenty of laughter, shocks, tearful moments but ultimately a better understanding of Tourette’s Syndrome.

Top marks to the people at The Unit and Keighley Creative for staging the evening. And if you get chance, go to see I Swear; you won’t regret it.
