Looks like the builders are in at Tamworth Castle. The Norman fortress, which overlooks the River Anker, stands on the site of an earlier edifice that was once the residence of the Anglo Saxon kings of Mercia. The Staffordshire town was the capital of the ancient kingdom, which existed independently from 527 to 879, at which time Wessex became the dominant kingdom in England south of Northumbria
